Juice Detox Fasting

Posted on 03. Oct, 2009 by in juice detox

Juice detox is a form of fasting.  For a short period of time only fruits and vegetables that have been juiced or blended are consumed.  No solid food is taken, so this diet is hard for some to adhere to.  For this reason it is advisable to transition to an all juice diet and prepare your body for it ahead of time.  To do this, begin by increasing water intake and also increasing fruit and vegetable intake.  Lightly steamed or raw foods are preferred.  Meats and alcohol are hard on the colon and therefore should be eliminated from the diet.

The fast should last about 1 to 3 days and should include at least 32-64 ounces of freshly made juice.  Fruit juices may be taken in the morning, then add vegetable juices in the afternoon and evening.  Light exercise such as walking or yoga is advisable to help stimulate the body without overworking it.

Side effects should be slight to none if you have prepared your body for the juice detox.  A headache, fuzzy white tongue, body aches and cold-like symptoms may occur in the first day.  This is to be expected, however it is advisable to consult with a health care professional.
